Bedbugs hiding places

Over the last three years Bedbugs have had a major comeback. Many believe it is because of the EPA's cut back on the strength of pesticides and the amount of international travel that takes place now. It could also be due to pest control companies not spraying as much as they used to because of the success of new roach baits. Whatever the reason for the new surge, bedbugs are now the top pest again. Bedbugs only feed on warm blooded animals and humans are their favorite. They hide close to a sleeping area and come out at night to feed. An adult Bedbug is 1/5"/5mm in length and 1/8"/3mm wide. What makes these bugs such a problem is their life span, their hiding places and their abilities to detect and avoid repellent insecticides. Bedbugs go through 5 instars or growth changes before they can molt and grow. They must have a blood meal between each instar change. In each of their instar stages or pre adult stages, a nymph Bedbug can go months without feeding. An adult Bedbug can go over a year without feeding. Add to this fact their abiliy to detect and avoid most pesticides. You have a bug that can hide in a deep void until the pesticide that was sprayed wears off. Now add that they will hide deep in furniture, mattresses, bedsprings, eletronics, behind wall coverings, under carpets, behind outlet and switch plates and other hard to reach areas where just spraying pesticides will not reach them. Add these reasons together and you have the makings of a real life superbug a VAMPIRE that lives with and feeds on you while you sleep. As of now there are no diseases known to be related to Bedbug's bites, but the itchy bites are reason enough to act quickly if a bug is found.

The first step in getting rid of these pests is washing all bedding and vaccuuming and vaccuuming and vaccuuming some more. Make sure to throw away the vaccuum bags to prevent bugs from crawling back out. You can also add corn starch to the vaccuum. This will help kill any bugs sucked up. Removal is the best and fastest way to get control over these bugs. This is one bug where a pest control professional must be called in. It is personally the hardest pest we had to deal with in our years of experience. Good Luck.
